The Ranger returns to Afghanistan

J.M. Simpson, associate editor of the Fort Lewis Ranger newspaper, returns to Afghanistan to cover Fort Lewis troops deployed to that region during the month of December 2009.
The three-week trip marks Simpson's seventh visit to the war zone since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan started. This is Simpson's second trip to Afghanistan.
While there, Simpson will cover the lives and missions of the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team which deployed this summer to Afghanistan for a one-year deployment.
"We are extremely proud of John Simpson – his dedication to telling the stories of our brave men and women from Fort Lewis is humbling," said Ken Swarner, editor of the Fort Lewis Ranger. "John is well-known for going where the soldiers go, often completing 10 to 20 combat missions every time he goes to the war zone."
Simpson's stories and photos will be carried inside the Fort Lewis Ranger, as well as on the Ranger's Web site at northwestmilitary.com.
