Swarner Communications is publishing the program guides for two events this summer that combined will bring 500,000 people to the area.

That's two special sections, half a million people.  WOW!

First is Freedom Fair on Tacoma's waterfront July 4th.  Our guide circulates across Ruston Way at all of the venues.  The Freedom Fair combines music, food, fireworks and an airshow that delights over 150,000 spectators.  The Guide also inserts into all of our publications the week before.

Next, we publish the Air Expo at McChord Field.  The guides are handed to attendees as they enter the gates - right into their hands, as well as at key locations inside the flight area.  350,000+ people attended the 2008 show, and the Air Force expects a similar crowd this year.  The show is packed with acts, and it is our guide that give everyone the times and background info for the show.

We've been busy 04/30/2010

OK, we've lacked a few posts lately, but here is what we've been up to:
1. Organizing the big Romancing the Spouse event in DuPont for June 3rd.  A great opp to help spouses prepare for the return of their husbands and wives from war (18,000 in total).
2. Spearheading an effort to put gift baskets in every barracks room of returning single soldiers.  We are publishing a newspaper to go in the baskets thanking our sponsors...our PR clients are all participating.
3. Regular booth work and gift bags at newcomers, Kids Fest and the upcoming Armed Forces Day.
4. Linking our clients and their great stories with issues of the Ranger and Airlifter.  Recently highlighted were CDS in the NW Veteran, Bank of America in the Spring Homes and Apartments Guide.
5. Front page ads in the papers for our clients.  This week Shur Kleen.
6. Preparing the glossy program guide for the Air Expo at McChord Field.  350,000+ people are expected to attend.

7. Finished a successful Tournament of Tacos promotion in the Weekly Volcano.
8. Preparing for our special 3-D Best of Tacoma issue in July.
9. Blogging daily at our Web sites.
And much more...

Swarner Communications will provide the glossy magazine event guide program for Joint Base Lewis-McChord's Air Expo, July 17-18.
Last time, over 350,000 people attended the show.  The event guide is handed to attendees as they file through the front gate - and it is their link to the two days of shows, static displays and exhibits.

We topped out somewhere in the neighborhood of 650-700 military spouses for our Valentine's Day of Pampering event hosted by our newspapers, supported by our PR clients, and also made possible by donations and support from local business and organizations.  The day was packed with free gifts and services for our military spouses.  With 18,000 soldiers deployed, that was a lot of lonely hearts at home on the day of love.  We did our best to make the day more berable for our great readers.

Our numbers slowed a little after we had to cut off daycare (we hit our max), but we continue to receive RSVPs everyday for our Valentine's Day of Pampering event on Feb 14th.  We have a great party planned, all to give back to the spouses of our great deployed military pers

Post Title. 02/01/2010

Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base have chnaged their names.  It's now Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  When describing it as a whole, refer to it as the Joint Base or the Base.  It's no longer a Post.

As for us, we are changing the Fort Lewis Ranger to The Ranger, dropping off Fort Lewis from our name.  From 1951 to 1990, we were known as The Ranger, so it's kind of old hat for us.

One week ago we started taking reservations for our Valentine's Day of Pampering to honor and salute the spouses and significant others of deployed military personnel in the South Sound.  We are well over 300 RSVPs as of this afternoon, as well as completely booked in our daycare.  The good folks at Lacey Learning Center have agreed to watch over the 350+ kids we expect to be dropped off during the 4-hour event at St. Martin's University.  We have a load of public support for the event including make-up, massage, jewelry, wine, food, psychic, tanning, and hair professionals.  We can always use more.   Other highlights include instructors to teach both ballroom and belly dancing.
